ADHD Timeline

I have life-style ADHD. So in the spirit of “show-don’t-tell”, here’s a list of things I’ve done the last few years:

  • Read this book on orchids that was really interesting
  • Learned to swim.
  • Went to the University of Pennsylvania to study bioengineering
  • Started a t-shirt company that sold bootleg Penn shirts to raise money for battered women. (So much more efficient than volunteering drives.)
  • Attempted to ride a razor scooter to my dorm room in Philly from my mom’s house in the Bronx. Got sunburnt on one side.
  • Dropped out of Penn to go to massage school
  • Started a real estate brokerage that was later shut down by Elliot Spitzer (I wasn’t old enough to have a real estate brokerage yet… which was a red flag that told them to shut me down) but not before I made enough money to pay for massage school.
  • Went to massage school
  • Was a handy-man. “Zen Contracting” represent!
  • Became Vegetarian.
  • Started an anti-bush t-shirt company that employed over a hundred activists, registered over 5,000 voters, and went national in scope.
  • Finished massage school
  • Moved to Seattle
  • Saw Pike Place Market
  • Stayed at the Green Tortoise
  • Started a moving company “Seattle SuperMovers” that totally cornered the market within a month (gotta love the the internet)
  • Moved to Bellingham, WA.
  • Started a fair trade importing company with Angel Investor Money
  • Jet skiing!!
  • Left the company in others’ capable hands. Really capable. I think they ended up selling the company for at least some sort of profit.
  • Moved back to New York
  • Got a job at Scholastic Corporation (Their non-profit division that runs the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards)
  • Started a custom clothing company (It’s based out of New York and the clothes are made in Thailand)
  • Went to Harvard University to finish up my degree and study computer science
  • Shaved my head (way more efficient than having hair for getting dressed in the morning)
  • Dropped out of there too
  • Scholastic paid me to *not* get another job so I’d be available to answer questions.
  • Became a consultant for hedge funds.
  • Took leave from Harvard
  • Went to Burning Man. (AWESOME! You’ve gotta go.)
  • Read some Murakami books. What a weird/ awesome dude…
  • Bought a sports bar in South Carolina. This turned out to be a con by a close childhood friend who took advantage of me. Live and learn right?
  • Invested in a cosmetics company.
  • Went to Costa Rica.
  • Took family on our first vacation! We went to Cartagena, in Colombia.
  • Quit job as a consultant
  • Bought a touring bicycle and rode it from Boston to Ann Arbor, Michigan.
  • Bought a used car in Ann Arbor and drove it down to Burning Man.
  • Saw the Badlands National Park
  • Moved to Oakland, CA.
  • Traveled to England, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Slovenia, Hungary, and Turkey.
  • Worked as a consultant to a healthcare company started by someone I admire.
  • Learned to paraglide.
  • Moved to India.
  • Started doing lots and lots of yoga.
  • Moved back to New York City.
  • Started a consulting company.
  • Sold my consulting company.
  • Started some new companies and initiatives.
